چکیده

We re-analyse the prospects of discovering supersymmetry at the LHC, in order to re-express coverage in terms of a fine-tuning parameter and to extend the analysis to scalar masses (m0) above 2 TeV. We use minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) unification assumptions for the SUSY breaking parameters. Such high values of m0 have recently been found to have a focus point, leading to relatively low fine-tuning. In addition, improvements in the simulations since the last study mean that this region no longer lacks radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. The best fine tuning reach is found in a mono-leptonic channel, where for μ > 0, A0 = 0 and tan β = 10 (corresponding to the focus point), all points in mSUGRA with m0 < 4000 GeV, with a fine tuning measure up to 300 (570) are covered by the search, where the definition of fine-tuning excludes (includes) the contribution from the top Yukawa coupling. Even for arbitrarily high m0, mSUGRA does not evade detection provided the gaugino mass parameter M1/2 < 460 GeV.

Multi-TeV scalars are natural in minimal supergravity

For a top quark mass fixed to its measured value, we find natural regions of minimal supergravity parameter space where all squarks, sleptons, and heavy Higgs scalars have masses far above 1 TeV and are possibly beyond the reach of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This result is simply understood in terms of "focus point" renormalization group behavior and holds in any supergravity theory wit...

Improved Higgs naturalness with or without supersymmetry

Many models of electroweak symmetry-breaking with an extended Higgs sector exhibit improved naturalness, wherein the new physics scale, at which quadratic divergences of Higgs mass parameters due to top quark loops are cut off, can be pushed beyond the reach of the Large Hadron Collider without unnatural fine-tuning. Such models include examples where the new physics is supersymmetry, implying ...

Focus Points and Naturalness in Supersymmetry

We analyze focus points in supersymmetric theories, where a parameter’s renormalization group trajectories meet for a family of ultraviolet boundary conditions. We show that in a class of models including minimal supergravity, the up-type Higgs mass has a focus point at the weak scale, where its value is highly insensitive to the universal scalar mass. As a result, scalar masses as large as 2 t...

Likelihood analysis of the next-to-minimal supergravity motivated model

In anticipation of data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the potential discovery of supersymmetry, in this work we seek an answer to the following: What are the chances that supersymmetry will be found at the LHC? Will the LHC data be enough to discover a given supersymmetric model? And what other measurements can assist the LHC establish the presence of supersymmetry? As a step toward ...

Prospects for Indirect Detection of Neutralino Dark Matter

Dark matter candidates arising in models of particle physics incorporating weak scale supersymmetry may produce detectable signals through their annihilation into neutrinos, photons, or positrons. A large number of relevant experiments are planned or underway. The ‘logically possible’ parameter space is unwieldy. By working in the framework of minimal supergravity, we can survey the implication...
